Operators reap rewards as crowds turn out to see flame touring Scotland. THE Scottish leg of the Olympic torch relay brought a welcome boost to trade for operators with outlets along the route. The flame arrived in the south west port of Stranraer on Friday June 8, travelling through Ayrshire and the south side of Glasgow before reaching the city centre on the Friday evening.
Arran Brewery primed to expand
Share issue to fund new production site, bottling hall and pub chain. Arran Brewery has confirmed plans to build a new production facility and bottling hall and open a string of pubs. The firm, owned by Gerald Michaluk, aims to fund the expansion by selling up to £10 million in shares to the public in a move inspired by Brewdog’s ‘equity for punks’ scheme.

THE Scotch whisky industry received another shot in the arm last week when distilling giants Chivas Brothers and Diageo unveiled plans for major investments in the sector. Bell’s and Johnnie Walker owner Diageo said it will plough more than £1 billion in Scotch whisky production over the next five years, while Chivas, the whisky and gin business of Pernod Ricard, pledged to spend £40 million annually to increase its distillation capacity.
