TRADE groups have hit out at Edinburgh licensing board’s decision not to grant extra hours for the historic Scottish Cup Final clash between Hibs and Hearts this Saturday (May 19). SLTA boss Paul Waterson said the decision to knock back all 21 applications for premises to open earlier on Saturday for the all-Edinburgh cup final - the first since 1896 – was a missed opportunity.

West to the 4 with new lager

WEST, the fast-growing brewer based on Glasgow Green, is bidding to shake things up on the standard lager scene. The business, headed by Petra Wetzel, is launching a new 4% ABV lager as an alternative to brands like Tennent’s, Carling and Beck’s Vier. West 4 is the latest in a portfolio of beers, made according to Germany’s ancient beer purity laws, which are gaining traction in the Scottish trade and around the world.

A HAMILTON publican is embarking on a career in politics after winning a seat in the Scottish local elections earlier this month. Lynn Adams, who runs the George bar with husband Colin, took one of three seats available in South Lanarkshire Council’s Hamilton North and East ward for the SNP.
