In yet another new opening from Encore Bars, Edinburgh’s west end has welcomed The Shaker, described as an ‘all-out party bar’.

At 9 Shandwick Place, The Shaker is described as a late-night destination built around a simple formula – ‘great cocktails, big tunes and a proper night out’.

Encore’s director of operations, Gavin Currie, said: “We’re thrilled to finally open the doors at Shaker.

“Opening weekend exceeded everything we’d hoped for. The room was full, the music was spot on, and the atmosphere was exactly what we set out to create.

“The feedback from guests has been fantastic and bookings are already flying in for the weeks ahead. We can’t wait to see where the next few months take us.”

Unlike Encore’s other capital venues, The Shaker offers no live music, instead putting DJs firmly at the heart of the entertainment, with a soundtrack said to span chart favourites, house singalongs, R&B, hip hop and crowd-pleasing party anthems.

In case anyone is any doubt about the new bar’s intentions, the interior is decked out in disco balls and neon, ready for a party continuing until 3am.

Cocktails are described as central to The Shaker experience, with a menu using premium brands alongside an extensive range of shooters.

“The emphasis is on well made drinks without losing the fun, high-energy feel of a bar designed for dancing,” said Encore.

“With free entry, no dress code and a relaxed door policy, The Shaker is designed to be an easy-going addition to Edinburgh’s nightlife.

“Booths are also free to book, with no minimum spend or packages required, making the venue an accessible option for everything from after-work drinks and catch-ups to birthdays and big weekend nights.”

However, The Shaker aims to be an early party-starter, opening at 7pm midweek, and from 5pm on Fridays and 3pm on Saturdays, giving weekend guests the option to make an afternoon of it before staying on until late.

“The Shaker has been created with a broad audience in mind, from Edinburgh’s after-work crowd and students to groups celebrating birthdays, weekend get-togethers and anyone who simply wants to dance to records they know,” said Encore.

“The focus is less on age and more on attitude, with a welcoming, come-as-you-are atmosphere at its heart.”
