Star announces supplier price cuts for lessees

Steve Dancer, buying director at Star Pubs & Bars.

PUB company Star Pubs & Bars has announced a package of supplier deals which it claims will offer the average lessee thousands of pounds in savings a year.

The new deals offer discounts on energy, waste management and recycling and Sky Ultimate subscriptions, translating to a 10% discount on gas and electric bills and a saving of around £5500 on combined waste management and Sky prices. They come after the Heineken-owned pubco negotiated new rates with Inspired Energy, Biffa and Sky, respectively. The deals are available to lessees through Star’s Buying Club service, which negotiates deals with suppliers on behalf of the company’s lessees. Star says the service offers “preferential terms” with 20 different suppliers.

“We know from talking to licensees around the country that cost reduction has never been more important,” said Star buying director, Steve Dancer.

“We want to do everything we can to make our pubs more sustainable by lowering their overheads. Taking advantage of the Buying Club deals on bigger expenses alone, could easily save at least £10,000 a year. All of the deals are optional, and it is up to licensees whether they participate.”
