Star looks for a bullseye with online darts tournament

STAR Pubs & Bars is hosting a virtual darts tournament across its estate in an attempt to drive footfall on Tuesday nights.

The Heineken-owned pub company’s Darts Stars tournament will be free to enter and will see participating pubs receiving a support package that includes point of sale materials and social media assets.

In order to enter pubs will need a darts team, internet connection and either a laptop or a smartphone. Participating venues will be able to live stream their opponents’ game on big screens, with games taking place simultaneously.

The tournament is open to all Star Pubs leased and tenanted pubs in Scotland, England and Wales. The winning team will win tickets to the World Darts Championships and their pub will be visited by a darts pro, who will play against the pub’s customers.

“Darts remains a hugely important part of many community locals and virtual tournaments are more popular than ever due to the rise of online gaming,” said Caren Geering, central operations director at Star Pubs & Bars.

“We want to capitalise on this to create a really exciting experience for customers that will generate more sales for licensees.

“Offering additional reasons to visit is key to attracting people into pubs at a time when many have less disposable income due to the cost of living crisis.”
