Star Pubs & Bars kickstarts reopening plans

Pubco launches training and support package for its Just Add Talent managed operator outlets

PUBCO Star Pubs & Bars has kickstarted its reopening plans with a new training and support package for its Just Add Talent (JAT) managed operator outlets.

The Heineken-owned company has staged the first in a series of virtual forums for its 130 JAT operators (four of whom are in Scotland) and has introduced a raft of new training modules for operators and staff, covering enhanced customer service, delivering the ‘perfect serve’, upselling opportunities, food, and the use of social media platforms to highlight what customers can expect when pubs reopen.

Star Pubs & Bars is also set to streamline systems and procedures across its JAT estate, including simplifying risk assessments, as well as issuing refreshed COVID-19 safety point of sale material once full details on reopening conditions are known. The pubco will also launch new promotional activity and a refreshed drinks menu for its JAT sites.

Beki Davies, retail concepts manager at Star Pubs & Bars, said all guidance, training modules and POS will be shared across the pubco’s leased and tenanted estate, which includes around 240 pubs in Scotland, and with Heineken UK on-trade customers.

“The forums are invaluable,” she said.

“They allow us to listen to operators’ concerns and share national and local insight with them, and in this case discuss our reopening support plans. Starting the process early means there is time to factor in changes resulting from feedback.

“We know our pubs have the potential to have a great summer, and we want to support them to make the most of every opportunity.”
