AN East Lothian bar and restaurant is doing its part for the area’s four-legged friends with a new takeaway offer for dogs.
The Mercat Grill in Whitecraig has added two new dishes for dogs to its takeaway menu as well as bottles of dog beer, Snuffle. The profits from the dog meals – around £5 a meal – will go to charity the Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home.
On the two-legged front, the venue is offering its entire menu for takeaway and has added a new fry-up ‘Breakfast Box’, which can be ordered for Sunday mornings.
The Mercat is also giving takeaway customers the chance to donate to a local foodbank by leaving any food donation on their doorstep. The Mercat team will collect the donation and then match it before delivering it to the foodbank.
Mercat owner Graham Blaikie said: “After closing our doors to diners on October 9, our takeaway service is back on the menu for our customers. We just want to keep on trading to the best of our ability in order to keep our business ticking over and retain our staff through these tough times.
“We also still really want to make a difference to local charities – and as we’ve not been able to hold any of our doggy events since lockdown started, we wanted to help support the Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home through this initiative.”
