THE trade dug deep at this year’s Ben Dinner to raise around £90,000 for the charity.
More than 960 guests from across Scotland’s licensed trade and drinks industry attended the annual dinner at Glasgow’s Thistle Hotel on February 6 to raise much-needed funds for the Scottish Licensed Trade Benevolent Society.
The event heard from Ben president Des Gallagher, of Matthew Clark, who highlighted the charity’s work to help those who have fallen on hard times, before after-dinner speakers Rod MacCowan and Peter Brown took to the stage.
Jacqueline Hutcheson won the Fiat 500 car, donated by Matthew Clark, in the prize draw, which raised more than £17,800; the silent auction, which included Ryder Cup tickets donated by Diageo and Commonwealth Games tickets from AG Barr, generated £11,000.
