Vera, a new independent neighbourhood restaurant, has opened its doors on Glasgow’s Southside, joining the thriving food and drink scene around Nithsdale Road and Strathbungo.
Located at 138 Nithsdale Road, Glasgow, Vera has been designed as ‘the kind of restaurant its team would want at the end of their own street’ — somewhere guests can drop in for a couple of plates and a glass of wine, enjoy an impromptu midweek dinner or settle in for the whole evening.
At the heart of the restaurant will be a regularly changing seasonal menu, giving the kitchen freedom to work with ingredients when they are at their best rather than being tied to the same dishes year-round.
The opening menu showcases Vera’s approach to food – familiar, comforting dishes made with quality ingredients and given a ‘considered twist’.
Drinks will receive the same attention, with a carefully selected wine list sitting alongside cocktails, beers and after-dinner serves.
Heading up the kitchen will be young chef Zak, who brings experience from some of Glasgow’s most celebrated kitchens, having previously worked at Unalome and Cail Bruich. Front of House will be managed by the fabulous Fabio & co.
The Vera team said: “The Southside already has an incredible independent food and drink scene, and that was a huge part of why we wanted Vera to be here.
“We didn’t want to create somewhere that people feel they have to save for a special occasion. Vera is supposed to become part of your week — somewhere you can decide at five o’clock that you fancy dinner, pop in for a glass of wine and something to eat, or end up staying all night.
“The menu will constantly evolve with the seasons. There’ll always be something new coming out of the kitchen, but the philosophy won’t change: great produce, big flavours and food that we genuinely love eating ourselves.
“Ultimately, we want people living around the Southside to feel like Vera is their restaurant.”
The opening adds another independent name to Nithsdale Road and the wider Strathbungo area, which has become one of Glasgow’s most popular neighbourhoods for eating and drinking.
