CAPITAL neighbourhood cocktail bar, The Blackbird, is preparing for this year’s Fringe with a six-figure makeover.

Opened in 2012 by independent operator Big Red Teapot, which also owns capital bar The Voyage of Buck, The Blackbird is located in Tollcross, near to the city’s King’s Theatre. The interior transformation will give the venue ‘a contemporary new look’ that includes mid-century plaster pink, terracotta and blue-green colour drenching, coupled with internal tiling, contemporary globe lighting and pop art touches.

The relaunch of the venue, in mid-July, will include new summer food and cocktail menus with dishes including pork belly with curried cauliflower, green apple and honey, while the new cocktail list includes the Kingston Dove, which balances tequila, guava, pineapple, lime and sparkling water.

Colin Church, managing director and co-owner of Big Red Teapot along with fellow director Martin Luney, said: “We’ve been making memories and serving happiness at The Blackbird since 2012 with an ever-changing cocktail offer, fantastic food and popular beer garden.

“We’re now gearing up to elevate the customer experience even further this summer with an exciting new interior makeover and menus in time for the Festival.

“We can’t wait to unveil our new look to local neighbourhood customers, as well as welcoming new visitors and festival goers this summer and beyond.”
