Diageo’s hospitality skills programme, Learning for Life, had a successful 2025, with its efforts helping no less than 838 people across the UK into new careers in the industry.
Delivered in partnership with hospitality charity Springboard, the L4L programme aims to equip people from all backgrounds with the skills they’ll need to succeed in the sector, whilst also fostering their personal confidence, resilience, and career ambition.
Reflecting on the past year, L4L programme manager at Diageo, Gillian Dalziel, said “It’s so rewarding to see our graduates apply their skills, confidence, and passion in real workplace settings – whether behind the bar, on the floor, or in front-of-house.
“I’m immensely proud of everything they’ve achieved and how they’ve embraced every opportunity the programme offers. We can’t wait to build on this success in 2026 and continue helping more people launch their careers in hospitality.”

Of the graduates who successfully completed the 2025 course, 265 were based in Scotland, while London, Glasgow, and Birmingham were the top three locations for new participants, with 188, 111, and 86 new starts respectively.
The programme’s ongoing partnerships with major hospitality employers continued to provide clear pathways into work, with the Hilton group, Nando’s, and The Ivy employing the largest number of L4L graduates this year.
2025 also saw graduates participate in high-profile trade and consumer events putting their skills and confidence to the spotlight, including a Burns Supper at the Scottish Consulate in London, and supporting Diageo’s Johnnie Walker Drop in Edinburgh.
Chief operations officer at Springboard – and chair of the Scottish Tourism and Hospitality Skills Group – Kelly Johnstone commented: “This year has reinforced the vital role of Learning for Life in building the UK’s hospitality talent pipeline which continues to face a shortage of skilled workers.
“We are grateful to Diageo for their continued support and proud of the partnerships we’ve developed with employers who share our vision. Together, we’re creating real opportunities for people to grow, develop, and contribute to a thriving industry.”
Recent L4L graduate Jack Rudkin added: “Before joining Learning for Life, I didn’t feel confident about finding a job in hospitality. I thought I didn’t have enough experience.
“My time on this course has changed that. I’ve learned so many practical skills, but the biggest difference has been in myself. I feel more confident, more positive, and more excited about what comes next.”
