Family-owned Scotch whisky business is ready to expand its range

Brand Spotlight: Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers

When your family has been involved in the whisky business for five generations, you probably know a thing or two about quality spirits.

That’s certainly the case with the Morrison family, owners of Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers.

The family, which formerly owned the Bowmore, Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch distilleries, opened the Aberargie Distillery in Perthshire in 2017 and also blends and bottles a range of whiskies as well as producing the Bruadar whisky liqueur.

It’s a product range that has been built on generations of experience and relationships within the industry, meaning the company not only has access to outstanding-quality liquid, but the knowledge and expertise to ensure it is matured, blended and bottled at its very best.

Càrn Mòr, for example, is a collection of single cask bottlings from distilleries around Scotland.

Morrison Distillers managing director, Niel Hendriksz, said each bottling includes “full transparency on the label as to where the whisky comes from – which distillery, what the cask number is, when it was distilled, what type of cask it was matured in, and the age of the whisky”.

Old Perth, meanwhile, is a blended malt comprised of single malts from a half dozen or so distilleries in Speyside. Niel explained that the whisky included in Old Perth is a mixture of spirit that was purchased by Morrison Distillers as new make spirit as well as casks containing more mature spirit.

The whisky is then all matured in sherry casks at the company’s Aberargie Distillery.

The Mac-Talla range brings the Morrison family full circle. It is a selection of single malts sourced from various distilleries on Islay – an island the Morrisons have a deep history with and connection to. There are four whiskies in the range: Terra, Mara, Strata and Flora.

And as if all those options aren’t enough, 2026 is expected to add another major new product to the portfolio, with the release of the first whisky from Aberargie.

The new whisky, to be released in March, will be a huge moment for chairman Jamie Morrison and his family, as those five generations of experience are brought to bear.
