DIAGEO has extended its partnership with training company Springboard in a move that will see the drinks giant’s Learning for Life programme continue in Scotland for at least another three years.

Launched in Scotland in 2014, Learning for Life provides training to young people who have been struggling to find work, helping equip them with the skills needed for careers in hospitality.

Diageo said the scheme has so far trained over 2000 people in Scotland.

In the next year the company plans to extend the programme into Scottish prisons, teaching hospitality skills to inmates in an attempt to prepare them for hospitality careers and cut the chances of them reoffending.

“This milestone is about more than celebrating the last ten years – it’s about building for the future,” said Diageo’s Learning for Life programme manager, Gillian Dalziel.

“Together with Springboard, we are widening access through digital courses, breaking down barriers with initiatives like our new prison programme, and showcasing Scotland’s hospitality through a plethora of events.

“At the same time, by responding to the real challenges our industry faces Learning for Life continues to attract people from all walks of life, bringing the diversity, resilience, and creativity our industry needs to thrive.”

Springboard CEO, Chris Gamm, added: “For 35 years, Springboard has changed lives by helping people from every background unlock their potential and find brighter futures. As we mark more than a decade of impact with Diageo, we reaffirm our commitment to shaping Scotland’s hospitality workforce for generations to come.”
