A cocktail-focused bar that aims to be ‘a deliberate departure from the overly refined’ is set to open in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge this week.
Crybaby is the latest venture from the Tiny Cup Collective, which is behind The St Vincent (The Vinnie), Nightcap, and Nip’s.
It is due to open its doors on 24th July on Dean Street, promising to bring ‘unapologetically fun cocktails, cult-favourite wings, and laid-back service’ to the popular neighbourhood.
Inspired by the ‘playful, sun-soaked simplicity’ of holidays in the Caribbean and Miami, Tiny Cup is setting Crybaby on a distinctly different course from Edinburgh’s other cocktail institutions.
“Edinburgh has an incredible cocktail scene, some of the best bars anywhere, but Crybaby isn’t about refinement or accolades,” said the launch statement.
“It’s about fun, accessibility and the kind of carefree enjoyment we all crave from holidays. Big, bold, colourful drinks – especially margaritas – and food that doesn’t take itself too seriously.”
Co-founder Chris Grierson added: “We want Crybaby to feel like the place you stumble on and immediately know it’s your new favourite spot.”
The new venue’s menu is said to offer ‘big flavours without the fuss’.
“Expect a simple smash burger, nostalgic cocktails served with flair, and the triumphant return of the buffalo wings that earned a cult following during the team’s FEED days at Nightcap and The St Vincent.”
On the drinks side, Crybaby will be all about margaritas, Piña Coladas and ‘big, bold, fruity creations’.
“Grand Theft is a straight-up stolen Cadillac Margarita recipe (because why mess with perfection?). No coupes, not a Negroni to be had – just big, fun drinks you actually want to smash.”
The interiors at Crybaby are intended to be striking – black walls lit with colourful neons and punchy signage, and a standout hot pink bar top.
Music promises to be key too, with a soundtrack of ‘90s and 00s throwbacks’ setting the tone, nostalgic for those that remember, and retro for the younger crowd.
“Crybaby isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel, it’s trying to bring the joy back to it,” said the launch statement. “With no dress codes, no egos, and no pretence, the message is clear – come for the margaritas, stay for the wings, and leave with a smile (and probably a stain on your t-shirt).”
