Ahead of its planned multi-million-pound restoration, famed Glaswegian food and drink venue The Ubiquitous Chip has launched a recruitment drive to find a ‘new wave of talent’ to join its existing team.
The Ashton Lane establishment is seeking no less than 20 new people in a range of front and back of house roles, with a particular focus on building the kitchen cohort.
There are opportunities to welcome new sous chefs, chef de partie and commis chefs, with recruitment geared towards supporting both ‘top-level creativity and consistency’ across the venue’s multiple dining spaces.

The Chip will also be hiring several front of house staff including a new bar manager, who will be responsible for all three bars and support the move to a full seven-day opening.
The planned restoration work promises to preserve the unique character of The Chip while giving it the ‘care and attention it deserves after more than five decades of service’.
There are to be refreshed interiors in the venue’s main and mezzanine dining areas, extended and upgraded kitchens and the introduction of a seven-day service across the restaurant and bars.
The new bar manager will also have responsibility for the planned Wee Bar expansion, which will see a new speakeasy style den established, offering guests ‘an intimate and atmospheric’ experience.

Head Chef Doug Lindsay, who has led the kitchen at The Chip for more than 20 years, has been closely involved in shaping the new spaces to ensure they meet the demands of a busy service, while maintaining the high standards that have earned the venue 2 AA Rosettes and an AA Notable Wine List Award.
“The kitchen is the engine room of The Chip,” said GM Will Allen. “We’re working hard to make sure the new layout supports quality, creativity, efficiency and the kind of environment chefs and front of house staff want to work in.

“This is a great opportunity to be part of a team that blends legacy with ambition. There aren’t many kitchens like it in Glasgow.”
All current staff – around 40 in total – have been retained and will be redeployed across sister venues during the closure. The Ubiquitous Chip will reopen to the public on 15 September 2025.
