Flame on as Yakitori Shack opens up a permanent spot in Finnieston

Yakitori Shack in Finnieston

Following a successful pop-up stint in Glasgow’s southside back in 2022, Japanese barbecue concept Yakitori Shack has taken over the space vacated by Ramen Dayo in the heart of the city’s thriving Finnieston food’n’drink drag.

The Yakitori Shack’s kitchen revolves around binchotan charcoal, a clean-burning, high-temperature charcoal imported from Japan that some consider the best in the world for the way it smokes and sears.

Onto that binchotan-fuelled robata grill go yakitori skewers – from the Japanese yaki (grill) and tori (chicken) – and sides, to be served with rice & noodles, offering ‘bold, simple flavours built for pairing with cold beer and cocktails’.

Favourites from the original pop-up feature, including the skirt steak skewer, peanut butter noodles, and elote japonais – corn ribs in Kewpie mayo, Sriracha and grated hard cheese.

Newcomers to the menu include Tantan Hispi Cabbage with brown butter miso, crunchy panko, crispy onions and a hit of chilli.

The interior aims for a Tokyo backstreet grill joint vibe, with custom-made lanterns and noren curtains, sourced straight from Japan.

Downstairs, there is a traditional izakaya style private dining area, with three separate rooms, sitting up to 10 people. This downstairs area is available to hire out to larger parties of up to 20 people.

With a late licence, Yakitori Shack is also serving up an extended drinks menu and regular DJs.
