Since opening on Glasgow’s Hope St in 2019, Mezcal has developed a reputation for ‘no-rules taco menus and mezcal-fuelled cocktails’ – an offer that it is now taking to heart of Edinburgh’s student land with a new opening on Teviot Place.
Part of the Bow Hospitality group which also operates St Judes, The Scallion and Hielan Jessie in Glasgow, Mezcal Teviot is the group’s second venture in Edinburgh, following its Latin American-themed Cabo restaurant bar.
And, at the same time as Mezcal is expanding eastwards, there are plans afoot for a new flagship Glasgow branch set to launch this summer.

Bow declared that the brand’s ‘smoky flavours, loud interiors, and serious street food energy’ had taken it from a single Hope Street venue to ‘full-blown movement’ with a ‘fiercely loyal’ following.
Director Ryan Bowman said: “Mezcal is a strong and well-recognised brand in Glasgow. Although Covid delayed our original plans, we’re now back on track and focused on expanding.
“We see real potential in Mezcal and believe it’s ready to grow across multiple locations. It’s a fantastic concept, combining authentic food with a vibrant, energetic atmosphere.
“Edinburgh is an exciting city with the rugby, the festivals and more — and the new venue is perfectly positioned beside the University,” said Bowman. “We’re thrilled to be opening there, and we’ve got another major announcement coming in the next few months.”
Mezcal regularly transcends the physical constraints of its venues via its roaming taco truck, a reliable source of viral social content that pops up at random locations to serve ‘culture, content and chaos in all the best ways’.
The Mezcal food menu centres on Mexican street food classics with a twist – cochinita pibil pork tacos, veracruz fish with chipotle garlic mayo, carne asada with guac, adobo & pickled veg, calabaza vegan tacos, and burrito, nacho, and taco sets.

Most dishes are gluten-free, and designed to ‘share, graze, dunk and devour’. The drinks menu is described as ‘spicy, smoky, and dangerously good’, with a particular focus on frozen margaritas..
For the Edinburgh launch, the venue’s taco truck is hitting the streets to sling ‘tacos, frozen margs, and good vibes’ across the city.
“No schedule. No warning. Just tacos when you least expect them. Keep your eyes on our socials,” said Mezcal’s emoji-heavy press release.
