Aberdeenshire-based Scotch Whisky specialists, Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky, this week opened a luxurious new hospitality space in its home town of Huntly.
The Club Room occupies a former Bank of Scotland building, bought by the Scottish company in January 2022. Following a major refurbishment, it has been transformed into a stunning area with bar and seating for up to 50 guests.
It will be used for private hire events and whisky tastings, as well as an additional space during busier periods for diners from The Bank Café & Restaurant on The Square, which the firm also owns.
This new investment by Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky follows the eight-month refurbishment of The Bank Café & Restaurant which opened last year and has since proven successful, open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Chairman of Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky, Euan Shand – who was born and brought up in Huntly – said of the investment: “We had ambitious plans to invest in some of the beautiful old buildings that lay empty and disused in the heart of the town, bringing them back to life, whilst also helping put Huntly on the map as a great place to eat and drink.
“Together with our Whiskies of Scotland shop in Gordon Street, The Bank Café & Restaurant and now the latest opening of The Club Room in the town centre, it’s an important focal point for locals and tourists visiting the area.
Shand continued: “We’re proud to be part of the transformation of the town, boosting the local economy and of course, creating further employment in the area alongside our King Street headquarters.”
The Club Room will also help to promote the company’s range of rare, aged malts and blended whiskies. DTSW recently ventured into the digital age with the launch of self-serve cask dispensers for a range of its Octave and Black Bull blends.
These automated barrels are installed in a bar and restaurant the firm opened in June in Ho-Chi-Minh City in Vietnam – and The Club Room in Huntly will also feature this innovation, allowing guests to imbibe their whisky of choice on demand with the use of a pre-paid card.
