Muscle, meat and martinis in Glasgow’s Chop sports bar steakhouse

Following a six-figure investment, Canadian steakhouse brand Chop has opened the doors on a brand-new concept for Glasgow – a luxury environment for steak and sports lovers to come together to ‘eat, drink and watch’.

The new bar and restaurant, situated on the ground floor of the soon-to-open Sandman Signature hotel on the west side of the city centre, is in partnership with Donald Russell, Scotland’s champion of traditional butchery and supplier to His Majesty the King, so it is serious about its meat. From premium steaks aged between 21 and 35 days to BBQ smoked ribs, blackened burgers and succulent beef bowls, each dish is cooked to perfection by the 15-strong team of chefs working in its state-of-the-art kitchen.

But it is also serious about its sports, with thirteen HD screens throughout the venue, and the target audience is very much sports fans looking for a comfortable and well-catered spot from which to enjoy their chosen match coverage.

Operations Director for the UK and Ireland, Pat Farrell, who has relocated from Canada to bring the Chop brand to Scotland, said: “We are so excited to bring Chop to Glasgow. Not only are we investing in the city at a time that it really needs it, but we also feel that we are introducing something truly unique – synergising great food and drink with sports viewing in a premium environment.

“At Chop, guests can enjoy an incredible steak with the very best curated wines – or a perfectly stirred Martini, all while catching a game on one of our thirteen HD screens. Right now, that’s not something that exists in Glasgow, so we’re incredibly excited. We are also in great company in this little corner of the city, adjacent to the incredible MODA living – a new rental complex, as well as mere yards from the King’s Theatre.”

As per Canadian preference, Chop’s hand-cut steaks are all cooked on the Montague Steakhouse Broiler, which sears the meat at 900° to create the ultimate crust. One of the restaurant’s most popular dishes back in Canada are its chicken wings served with Jack Daniels-spiked sauce; for opening week in Glasgow, a special ‘Irn Bru Edition’ of those wings was introduced.

Complementing the meat-centric food menu, Chop has a well curated drinks list. In addition to its Martini focus, there’s a wide array of wines, champagnes, cocktails and beers.

Building upon the success of its first establishment in Aberdeen, Chop Glasgow intends to be an accessible city centre venue for both locals and visitors alike – combining exceptional food with an extensive drink list and attentive service.
