IT’S the end of an era for the Glasgow licensed trade as legendary pub The Laurieston is put on the market for the first time in over four decades.
The pub, on Bridge Street in the Gorbals area, has been run by the Clancy family for over 40 years. As well as enjoying local and tourist trade year-round, it is a staple on Glasgow’s popular ‘sub crawl’ route as well as with visitors to the nearby O2 Academy. Inside, the pub hosts a wealth of memorabilia and drawings from local artists.
Owners John and James Clancy said: “In any family business, ‘family’ is the priority. After 40 years serving ‘The Laurieston Bar Family, we would now like to devote more time to serving the Clancy family.
“It goes without saying, it will be business as usual until the right buyer is found.”
Christie & Co is seeking offers over £750,000 for the freehold to The Laurieston.
Tony Spence, associate director at Christie & Co, said: “This is a rare opportunity to acquire a longstanding, successful pub in central Glasgow. The business is well placed to succeed going forward and would suit both an owner-operator or could be added to an existing portfolio.”
