Macmerry unfurls new Glasgow venue

MACMERRY 300, the Dundee-based bars group, has confirmed that it will open its new Abandon Ship Bar in Glasgow on 17th September.

Abandon Ship Bar is a joint venture between Macmerry and Richard Davies, founder of apparel brand Abandon Ship. The group opened the first Abandon Ship Bar in Dundee in 2019.

The Glasgow venue is spread across two floors and incorporates a bar and restaurant specialising in ‘Americana soul food’, cocktails and craft beers as well as a retail space dedicated to Abandon Ship clothing. The interiors will feature hand-drawn artwork by Davies.

The venue will open its doors on 17th September, joining Macmerry’s established Glasgow venues, which include The Bull on Great Western Road, Fly South on Lynedoch Street and The Luchador on Pollokshaws Road.

Macmerry’s operations director, AJ McMenemy, said: “With Abandon Ship Bar we are returning to our cultural home and our brand roots with our opening in Glasgow. Rich set up Abandon Ship Apparel in the east end of the city almost a decade ago, before we opened our first bar in Dundee in 2019. This feels like our homecoming and we can’t wait to show Glasgow what we’re all about.”
