Brewer’s glass runneth over

St Andrews Brewing Co smashes crowdfunding target

ST Andrews Brewing Co is set to ramp up beer production and add to its stable of bars after exceeding its crowdfunding target.

The company, which was founded in 2012 by Tim Butler and Phil Mackey, topped the £400,000 target in just a few days and is continuing to accept investment, eyeing the £600,000 mark.

The investment has been earmarked for new kit for the brewery, which is adjacent to St Andrews Botanic Gardens; the funds will enable it to increase production to one million pints next year. Currently, St Andrews Brewing Co’s four bars in St Andrews and Edinburgh consume a quarter of the beer it produces, with the remaining 75% distributed to bars and supermarkets across Scotland.

News of the crowdfunding came as the firm unveiled plans to open a 175-cover bar at Dundee’s Caird Hall in November.

Butler said: “The equity raised will help to propel the company onto a UK-wide stage, and globally from next year onwards. With a strong brand, expanded brewery and new venues, we’re ready to take advantage of the world’s growing love affair with craft beer.”
