Award-winning Glasgow burger restaurant El Perro Negro has been ranked number 56 on the inaugural World’s 101 Best Burger Places list, the only Scottish restaurant to be included in the global guide.

The 10 Best Burger Places ranking is described as the ‘international authority on burger excellence’, with more than 1500 burgers evaluated annually by an independent global network of culinary experts, chefs, food journalists and certified meat specialists across every continent.

Its criteria span meat quality and provenance, cooking technique, burger composition, consistency, guest experience and ethical sourcing.

Crucially, there is no application process and no fee – inclusion is earned entirely on merit.

On the list, El Perro Negro joins globally recognised names including Bleecker Burger and Hawksmoor (London), Gasoline Grill (Copenhagen), Wagyu Mafia (Tokyo) and Amboy Quality Meats (LA).

Founded by Nick Watkins in 2014, El Perro Negro has built its reputation on a ‘straightforward but uncompromising’ philosophy – grass-fed, dry-aged British beef, sourced with care and handled with precision.

The restaurant has won the title of UK’s Best Burger at the National Burger Awards twice – in 2019 and 2021, while Watkins was named UK Burger Chef of the Year in 2025.

Watkins said:”We’ve never been interested in shortcuts or gimmicks. We try to keep things simple – source the best beef and ingredients we can and put them together with care.

“To be recognised on a list like this – alongside some of the best burger restaurants in the world – is a real validation of all our hard work. It means so much.”

This latest recognition comes as El Perro Negro prepares for its second stint at the Meatopia open-fire food festival at Glasgow’s SWG3.

For 2026, Watkins is collaborating with Elliot Cunningham, founder of London open-fire concept Lagom, and reportedly one of the most exciting names in the UK’s food scene right now, with a background spanning Barbecoa, Smokestak and Yosma, with a formative stint at acclaimed butcher Turner & George.

What the two will be cooking together remains under wraps for now – but all will be revealed at Meatopia Glasgow on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th June. meatopia.co.uk.

People can, of course, also try El Perro Negro’s award winning burgers in their home locations at 152 Woodlands Road in Glasgow, and Bonnie & Wild in Edinburgh’s St James Quarter.
