Should you find yourself mocked by your peers over a new Scottish hospitality business idea you’ve just had – an idea which you think is great, but they think is unrealistic – point out to them that Scotland is about to host an international surfing tournament, inland, on a fully catered spot next to Edinburgh Airport.
Such is the unlikely wonder of Lost Shore, the artificial surf resort established by entrepreneur Andy Hadden on an old quarry site at Ratho, which has just announced the dates of its second ‘Hi-Land Fling’ surfing event.

The award-winning resort is home to Europe’s largest wave pool, powered by state-of-the-art Wave garden technology, successfully bringing the ‘thrill of the ocean’ to a handy location just minutes from one of the country’s main motorway junctions.
From 14th May to 17th May, Lost Shore will welcome 20 world-class professional surfers for a high-performance surfing showcase, open to the public, with extensive catering involving both pop-up food and drink stalls and the resort’s own Lost Kitchen’s recently refreshed menu.

Visitors will be able to watch some incredible surfing up close and personal, and if they feel up to it, share the water with the athletes in public surf jams, while those around enjoy the festival vibe.
The event is being sponsored by Rubicon RAW energy drinks, and onsite stalls will also feature Dead Man’s Fingers showcasing its new rum and cherry cola in cans, the Finnish long drink Lonkero, Pilot Beers with some exciting new launches, Thatcher’s cider showcasing its new blood orange cider as well as cloudy lemonade, Days Brewing Co.’s 0.0% lager, and coffee from Machina and The Brew Defender.
