Pancake Day cocktail competition at The Physician in St Andrews

To mark Shrove Tuesday, St Andrews’ award-winning cocktail bar The Physician is inviting bartenders to take part in its Pancake Day-inspired cocktail competition.

The inaugural Physician Bartender Competition is tasking on-trade mixologists to create an original cocktail inspired by a classic pancake pairing, ‘combining flavour, imagination and a compelling story’ to present live at The Physician on February 17.

Entrants are invited to choose one Pernod Ricard brand – Absolut, Beefeater, Bumbu Rum, Olmeca Altos Tequila, Malfy Gin or The Deacon Whisky – and using a minimum of 35ml of their selected spirit, develop a cocktail inspired by the flavours, textures or rituals associated with Pancake Day.

Owned by hospitality entrepreneur Julie Dalton, The Physician Bar is said to be known for its ‘thoughtful approach to cocktails and its respect for the craft of bartending’.

“The brief may be playful, but the standards are serious,” said Dalton. “Pancake Day is all about comfort, creativity and tradition, and we’re excited to see how budding and experienced mixologists translate that brief into the glass.”

Judging will focus on taste, presentation, brand awareness and originality, and amongst other prizes, the overall winner’s recipe will feature on The Physician’s bar menu

To enter, bartenders should email their entries – stating name, cocktail name, full cocktail specification and contact details – to charlotte.cowan@pernod-ricard.com.

Entry deadline is Wednedsday 11 February. Selected bartenders will be invited to present their cocktail live at The Physician Bar on Shrove Tuesday, 17 February.
