Macmillan Cancer Support gets £4m from Greene King fundraising

PubCo Greene King has highlighted another consecutive year of record-breaking fundraising for its long-term charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

In 2025, under Greene King’s auspices, pub teams and communities came together to raise over £4million to help fund Macmillan’s Support Line and its network of cancer care support professionals.

The brewery and pub giant’s partnership with the UK charity has now passed a lifetime total of £25m raised, with no sign of their fundraising efforts tailing off.

Greene King CEO Nick Mackenzie said: “Our pubs sit at the heart of communities, offering a welcoming space for people to come together, connect and support one another through life’s highs and lows.

“It’s this shared commitment to support our communities and make a positive difference that unites Greene King and Macmillan.

“A massive thank you to our teams, customers and suppliers for rallying behind Macmillan once again, making these milestones possible,” said Mackenzie.

As has become its pattern, the first six months of 2025 saw Greene King direct its fundraising towards Macmillan’s Support Line, which provides those living with cancer and their loved ones with confidential emotional, practical and financial information and support.

Team members and customers raised nearly £1.7m, enough to fund the Cancer Information and Support team on Macmillan’s Support Line for just over 10 months.

During the second half of the year, fundraising efforts focussed on supporting Macmillan’s professionals, with the company raising over £2.3m, enough to pay for more than 60 Macmillan nurses for six months.

Chief executive at Macmillan Cancer Support, Gemma Peters, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone at Greene King for raising a record-breaking £4 million in 2025, and for their unwavering commitment across fourteen fantastic years of partnership.

“Greene King colleagues and customers across the country have once again raised the bar, throwing themselves into fundraising with unrelenting energy and determination to support people living with cancer.”

In 2025, the Waterfold Farm in Bury was Greene King’s top fundraising pub, generating over £23,000 for Macmillan in 2025.

Its general manager Ashley Dale said: “Supporting Macmillan means the world to the team. Almost everyone knows someone affected by cancer, and while that can be tough, the team finds comfort in knowing their efforts help fund the brilliant support Macmillan provides everyday via its Support Line and Macmillan nurses.

“Our ‘little and often’ fundraising events, like quiz nights, raffles and cake sales, really do add up and brings our community together. I’m so proud of the team and am grateful for the generosity shown by our amazing customers.”
