Drinkers in search of the perfect pint of Guinness served in an equally perfect pub can now turn to the Harp Guide, a newly launched Guinness-endorsed list of UK premises officially deemed to be delivering the black stuff to a high standard.
The debut Harp Guide is an exclusive affair, with only 35 UK venues included – and of those, only three are in Scotland.
The expectation is that, going forward, this ‘Michelin guide for Guinness’ will grow based on public recommendations, but for now the only pubs in Scotland receiving a Harp Guide brass plaque for their skills with stout are Malones Edinburgh and, in Glasgow, Kitty O’Sheas and Jinty McGuinty’s.

The staff at Malones Edinburgh declared themselves ‘chuffed to bits’ to have been included in Guinness’s first ever Harp Guide – and to be the only pub in Edinburgh to make the grade, thanks to their ‘correct cellar conditions, glassware procedures and thorough staff training’.
Malones general manager Francesca Benham commented: “It’s a real honour for Malones to be featured in the first Guinness Harp Guide.
“We put a lot of effort into making sure every pint is spot on, so it’s great to see that being recognised by Guinness themselves.
“We’re proud to fly the flag for Edinburgh and look forward to welcoming anyone who fancies a proper Guinness.”
Malones Edinburgh was also recently successful at the 2025 SLTN Awards, winning the Best Venue to Watch the Match award, putting it in pole position to capitalise on what promises to be a busy year for sports bars.
Guinness envisage the Harp Guide acting as a travel guide for fans of the brand, with each pub on the list embodying five key values that make it worthy of a visit – quality pours, a welcoming atmosphere, strong community, great service and a ‘genuine love of Guinness’.
