Free gaelic and Guinness at Malones Leith’s Irish Heritage Day

Offering a free pint of Guinness to the first 75 customers through the door, Malones Leith is planning to use Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Hungary as the peg upon which to hang a full day of Irish culture.

From 12pm to 5pm on Sunday 16th November, alongside of its screening of this vital football match, Malones will be hosting free Irish language classes, dancing classes, live traditional music, and whiskey tasting.

This Irish Heritage Day is being held in partnership with QMU Gaelic Football Men’s Team, with free entry and activities suitable for all ages.

Malones will be giving away 75 free pints of Guinness or Guinness 0.0 to the first 75 guests who attend and order at the bar from 12pm onwards.

The free Irish language classes, led by the QMU Gaelic Football Club, offer 24 spaces for children, beginners, and anyone looking to learn or brush up on their Gaeilge, but must be booked in advance.

Traditional Irish storytelling sessions at 1pm will bring legends and folklore to life, which should be particularly appealing to families and children.

The World Cup qualifier against Hungary will be screened live throughout the bar – but Irish dancing performances and classes will also take place in the afternoon, giving attendees the chance to watch talented dancers and learn the steps themselves.

As well as live traditional Irish music, guest will be invited to sample authentic Irish food, enjoy the venue’s ‘Irish Favourites’ menu, and participate in a Teelings Whiskey barrel-top tasting session exploring the craft and history of Irish whiskey.

General manager of Malones Leith, Charlie Douglas, said: “Our Irish Heritage Day is all about bringing people together to celebrate the culture, language, and traditions that make Ireland so special.

“Whether you’re Irish, Scottish, or just love a good day out, there’s something here for everyone.

“We’re particularly excited about the free Irish language classes – it’s a rare opportunity to learn Gaeilge right here in Leith. And with the Ireland match on at 2pm, the atmosphere is going to be electric.

“Best of all, it’s completely free to attend, so you can drop in whenever suits and stay as long as you like.”
