To mark 140 years of Scotland’s favourite beer, Tennent’s has gone back to its roots with the launch of Tennent’s Bavarian Pilsner, a 4.7% limited-edition brew.
This new product, available both on-trade and off, has been inspired by the 1880s journey that started it all, when Hugh Tennent travelled to Bavaria and brought back brewing techniques that would shape the future of Scottish lager.
Honouring that legacy, Bavarian Tennent’s is described as a crisp, clean pilsner brewed using German bittering hops and Scottish barley.
However, in what should come as exciting news for beer fans, the Bavarian Pilsner is only the first release in a planned new series under the Tennent’s Vault banner – which will allow the Wellpark-based brewing team to draw on over 500 years of experience to bring forgotten favourites to outlets and shelves of Scotland.
Tennent’s senior brand manager Joanne Motion said: “This isn’t just a new product, it’s a celebration of Tennent’s heritage, our innovation, and our future.
“It’s a chance to reconnect with the story of Hugh Tennent and the Bavarian roots that helped shape our iconic lager – brewed using traditional Bavarian methods but made right here in Glasgow.
“This is the first release from the Tennent’s Vault, a new platform for innovation that draws from our vast brewing heritage and expertise. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to share what’s coming next.”
The Bavarian Pilsner will be rolled out over the coming weeks to venues within Scotland’s on trade, and will also be available in the off trade across both grocery and convenience stores from November.
The launch will be supported with a digital marketing and PR campaign that pays homage to the brand’s Bavarian roots – and will feature the launch of the world’s first Square Wurst sausage.
Inspired by traditional Bavarian bratwurst and a Scottish classic, the Square Wurst is to be served with a dill-pickle sauerkraut and Tennent’s mustard, and will be available from Auld Hag’s pop-up in Edinburgh from 7th November, Glasgow’s Naked Soup from 14th November and Aberdeen’s Mount Cafe from 21st.
