Café Calton pivots to autumn with a new seasonal evening menu

Café Calton commands a spectacular view across Edinburgh

Perched atop Calton Hill with sweeping views of Edinburgh’s skyline, the newly-opened Café Calton has unveiled its autumn/winter evening menu, plus a special pre-theatre dining experience.

Pivoting from its summer opening offer as a touristic ‘must-see’ vantage point, Café Calton is transforming into a ‘warm, atmospheric dining destination’, focussed on seasonal produce with a menu said to blend ‘comfort, creativity, and culinary flair’.

Head chef Iain Thomson

Created by head chef Iain Thomson, the new evening menu features dishes perfect for the colder nights, including steak frites, with Koffman fries, garlic and parsley butter; sea bream, with fregola and lemon butter sauce; homemade tagliatelle pasta, with Scottish mushrooms, 36-month-aged parmesan; and crispy chicken with hot honey and sesame.

Thomson said: “We wanted to design a menu that offers diners a cosy, elevated experience in one of the city’s most unique settings.

“Autumn and winter are some of the most inspiring times of year to cook in Scotland — the flavours are bold, the ingredients are robust, and there’s a real sense of comfort that comes through in every dish.

“Whether guests are joining us for a leisurely evening meal or a quick pre-theatre bite, we want them to feel both nourished and inspired by what’s on the plate.”

From October 10th, Café Calton will be offering a pre-theatre menu, ideal for those heading to performances at the nearby Playhouse, Festival Theatre, or other city venues.

The two or three-course early evening set menu, served from 5pm to 6:30pm, promises ‘refined, time-conscious dining without compromise on flavour’.
