ITALIAN restaurant chain Prezzo Italian will open a new restaurant in Edinburgh as part of a renewed expansion drive.

The Edinburgh site, one of two new openings scheduled by the company in the coming weeks, will open its doors later in August (the other site, in Rugby, will open in September).

The openings are the first new restaurants for Prezzo in five years, and come after former BrewDog CEO James Brown took over as Prezzo Italian CEO late last year.

The company recorded an 11% increase in like-for-like sales in its third quarter, and it has announced that it will refurbish 40 of its locations next year.

Prezzo operates more than 90 restaurants across the UK, including two in Scotland – at Glasgow’s Braehead and Aberdeen’s Union Square shopping centres.

Brown called the new openings ‘a hugely exciting moment’.

“Opening new restaurants in Rugby and Edinburgh is a real statement of intent and shows the commitment and confidence we have in our brand,” said Brown.

“We are seeing fantastic results from the investment we’ve made in our restaurants and teams, and there is a renewed energy across the business. With double-digit sales growth and a pipeline of opportunities ahead, we’re building a stronger, more relevant Prezzo Italian for the future.”
