In a property deal concluded in a ‘discreet, timely and professional’ way, the longstanding owners of Ziggy’s Restaurant in St Andrews have sold the unit, on a new lease basis, to Michael Bergson’s Buck’s Bar Group.
Acting on behalf of Phil and Annie Wishart, Cornerstone Business Agents said it was ‘delighted to have helped secure the arrival of Buck’s Bar number six’ in the Fife hotspot, not least because the firm previously sold Bergson his first Buck’s Bar location in Edinburgh back in 2023.
Cornerstone’s Barry McNeil said: “In the preparation for a sale, we met with the family on several occasions and collectively decided we would proceed on a confidential basis.
“We specifically targeted Buck’s Bar as we overwhelmingly believed Buck’s Bar was the right fit for the site and St. Andrews.
“We are delighted to say that the deal was concluded discreet, timely and professionally by all, including David Orr, providing legal services for Buck’s Bar, and Kate Black of Rollos, providing legals for Phil and Annie.”
Ziggy’s, at 6 Murray Place, was marketed as an outstanding opportunity only ‘a long Iron away’ from the 18th Green of St Andrews’ famous Old Course.
Something of a local institution, Phil and Annie first opened the rock’n’roll themed Ziggy’s in 1983.
The 40-cover restaurant and bar, in what Cornerstone described as a ‘honeypot trading locale’, benefits from the thousands of extra visitors that both the university and the golf bring to St. Andrews every year, boosting the indigenous and tourist footfall.
Famously, Ziggy’s has welcomed some celebrity clientele over the years, in particular Prince William, who is known for booking in as ‘Mr Wales’.
On taking over this prime spot, Buck’s Bar Group owner Michael Bergson said: “We are extremely excited to be bringing our famous Buck’s chicken, liquor and rock n roll to St Andrews.
“Barry McNeil at Cornerstone Business Agents arranged the meeting with Ziggy’s owners Phil and Annie just a few weeks ago. The off-market deal was then concluded seamlessly with help from David Orr at Aberdein Considine.
“Our shopfit partners at Vertice Projects will begin work at the start of June and we are aiming to be open by late August,” said Bergson.
“We’ve been inundated with messages from locals and regular visitors to St Andrews, delighted that we’re coming to town.”
He added: “This will be the 6th Buck’s Bar in the group which also includes Thundercat Pub + Diner and the newly launched ThunderDog Pub + Diner in Glasgow.”
