Glasgow’s VEGA rooftop bar will this coming Friday (25th April) host the local launch of the latest release from Chairman’s Reserve, Mangrove Global’s premium rum brand.
The choice of venue is down to VEGA barman Johnny Morrison, who as winner of Chairman’s Global Bartender Competition 2024, got to play a part in the creation of the latest bottling in its small-batch spiced rum series, Spice Lab No.2.

Chosen from over 100 entrants worldwide, Johnny, joined by Dylon John of Saint Lucia, and Leonardo Tamayo of the USA, gathered on Saint Lucia to co-create the rum with master blender Deny Duplessis.
The result is described as a spiced rum that blends Saint Lucian spice culture with bartending creativity. To introduce it to the mixology community, the Chairman’s team is taking over VEGA at YOTEL in Glasgow city centre for a night of cocktails.
Morrison said: “Escapism and adventure are the cornerstones of bartending. So, I set out to create a rum that blends these concepts with a little bit of home warmth… which then went on to win a global competition through Chairman’s Reserve Spice Lab.

“I was excited to learn more of the science and craft from Deny who encouraged me to explore the passion, culture, and flavours of Saint Lucia.
“I was welcomed to this sun-draped paradise as if I had just arrived home. So, I wish to welcome you to join in the adventure with myself, Leo, and Dylon. Sip, savour and escape with us.”
This Friday, expect a one-off cocktail menu, a free welcome drink (if you’re name is on the door) and the chance to meet Johnny and UK brand ambassador Dave Marsland. The event I open to the public too, so bartenders are encouraged to ‘bring a pal’.
Spice Lab No.2 is limited to just 1,608 bottles globally. In Scotland, it will be available exclusively through The Good Spirits Co., with a discount code for anyone attending this Friday’s VEGA shindig.
Tasting notes for the new bottling promise ‘aromatic layers of bay leaf, honey, and brown sugar’ on the nose, ‘enriched by cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger’.
On the palate, you’ll get ‘brightness from key lime, finishing with a warm, lingering spice and a touch of toffee’.
