Betting big on experiential hospitality, Bowlarama doubles in size

The Bowlarama team

Competitive socialising is the name of the game at Glasgow’s newly expanded Bowlarama, which launches a whole new floor of fun this weekend.

Opened by entrepreneur Ian McColm in 2019, the Glassford St venue has since been running successfully in a first floor space dominated by an array of modern ten-pin bowling lanes, complimented by a bar and kitchen offering a selection of drinks and party food with multi-generational appeal.

McColm has now extended the concept into the street-level space below, which is described as the venue’s ‘social sports’ floor, featuring augmented darts, automated batting cages and a large central party bar.

For this Friday’s reopening, the first hundred guests through the doors will be given a complimentary shot in one of Bowlarama’s four state-of-the-art batting cages, which are said to be the first of their kind in Scotland.

Thereafter the venue will be open seven days a week, from 11am until midnight. Its multiple activities can be booked for a seamless experience across the two floors.

As well as the hi-tech bowling, batting and darts, visitors can also enjoy retro arcade game machines and two-player NBA Basketball Hoops games.

Behind the bar there are signature cocktails and shooters, alongside a range of beers, while the in-house restaurant has a brand-new food menu including burgers, wings, tenders and loaded fries, plus vegan options.

McColm said: “We are delighted to open our doors and welcome Glasgow back to our multi-floor venue. We hope that the innovative new social sports we have introduced downstairs will be as popular as our much-loved late-night bowling alley.

“It’s something new for the city and our investment into technology and user experience will allow competitive socialising for friends, corporate events, and family gatherings.”
