Greene King Pub Partners unveils new wet-led ‘Nest Pubs’ franchise

FOLLOWING the success of its ‘Hive Pubs’ franchise offer, Greene King Pub Partners has announced the launch of a second franchise concept – with a smaller food offer and lower staffing requirements – under the name ‘Nest Pubs’.

Hive Pubs were launched in 2021 and now operate on 46 sites. Greene King this week expressed confidence that this food-focused franchise would continue to expand and grow alongside a new generation of Nest Pubs, which will carry a full drinks range but restrict their food offer to pizzas.

According to Greene King’s plan, these Nest Pubs will be wet-led and predominantly located on busy high streets and in communities, with a remit to provide ‘great value, an excellent experience and regular sport and entertainment’.

Each Nest Pub will have Sky Sports and TNT Sport subscriptions. Alongside this, they will provide a regular calendar of entertainment ranging from pub quizzes to live music and karaoke.

Greene King Pub Partners said that it would be investing six-figure refurbishments into each new Nest Pub. Like its Hive Pubs, these franchise outlets will be aimed at those with pub management or assistant pub management experience who are looking to take the step up and run their own pub business.

As wet-led pubs with a smaller food offer, Nest Pubs franchisees will be expected to operate their business with a smaller staff team. As such, said GKPP, a Nest Pub Franchise Agreement will be the ‘most cost-effective and simplest way to start a pub business with the full backing and support of Greene King’.

“A Nest Pubs franchisee will be able to get the keys to their own Nest Pub for just £3000, including agreement fees, inductions and on-site training,” said the group.

“Like with Hive Pubs, Nest Pubs franchisees will earn through a percentage of food and drink sales. On top of this, they get a share of the profits in their pub and will earn bonuses based on performance in key areas such as operational excellence.”

Managing director of GKPP, Dan Robinson, added: “We are delighted to continue the growth and success of our franchise offer with the development of Nest Pubs.

“The first Nest Pub will open later this year with more following behind it. Alongside this, we’ll continue to grow our successful Hive Pubs franchise concept with more openings.

“Our overwhelming focus as a business remains in the leased and tenanted space, but we are excited to continue the growth of our franchise pub business through Nest Pubs.”
