Traditional Irish treat of oysters and Guinness in the heart of Leith

OYSTERS and Guinness, an intriguing culinary combination that once graced the tables of traditional pubs across Ireland, is making a resurgence at Malones Leith.

Starting on Thursday November 30, the Malone family’s latest venue is to host a series of Oysters & Guinness Nights on its mezzanine level, in partnership with The Oysterman.

Historically, the pairing of Oysters & Guinness was a common sight in pubs across Ireland, but it wasn’t until a member of British elite tasted the combination that it became an officially recognised dish.

Since then, it has become a part of the country’s cultural and culinary heritage – and is still provided on the menu in the Guinness Brewery itself.

Malones’ inaugural oyster evening on the 30th – which is ticket only – begins with a welcome drink at the bar before heading upstairs for the Guinness and oyster tasting, before returning to the bar for some live music and yet more Guinness.
