McLaren Packaging appoints new chair to oversee growth plans

Sustainable food and drink packaging specialist, McLaren Packaging, has appointed Peter Lederer CBE as its new chair. 

The Port Glasgow-based family business has grown consistently in recent years, both organically and through acquisition, and it now employs 350 people across seven manufacturing sites in Central Scotland, with a turnover approaching £50 million.

With the objective of continuing to develop and expand its reputation as a supplier of sustainable and innovative packaging to the premium and luxury sectors, the group has selected Lederer, a respected business leader with an OBE for services to the industry and a CBE for services to Scottish tourism, to take the helm.

Described as having a wealth of experience in helping to grow privately owned family businesses and a deep understanding of what is required to deliver outstanding customer service, Peter’s current responsibilities include roles as non-executive director of Baxters Food Group and chair of premium jewellery business Hamilton and Inches.

Peter previously worked as managing director and chair of Gleneagles Hotels for over three decades and assumed the chair roles of Visit Scotland and The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

In his new role at McLaren Packaging, he will oversee the strategic development of the business, working closely with the senior management team in the evolution of group strategy, supporting its mission to deliver a sustainable business with a positive impact on the communities in which it operates.
