THE Scottish licensed trade is being encouraged to show their support for industry charity The Ben as the organisation launches its annual President’s Appeal.
Having been in operation for more than 160 years, The Ben provides support to people across the industry that are in need.
In his appeal Fraser McIlwraith, who took over as president of The Ben earlier this year, said the charity has helped people in a wide range of different situations, from employees who had been made redundant or suffered an injury and were unable to work to those that had split up with a partner and were left with nowhere to live.
In the past year the charity has also worked hard to broaden its reach and raise its profile among younger people in the industry, with initiatives including several new events.
The result has been a 300% increase in people reaching out to the organisation for assistance.
“The Ben Network events are aimed specifically at the younger generations and each one we put on raises awareness to a fresh set of people who are passionate about hospitality,” said McIlwraith.
“By the end of this year our aim is to have helped more people than ever before.”
Each case is assessed on its own merits and dealt with in strictest confidence. In order to ensure the best support is provided, The Ben partners with organisations including Hospitality Health, Breathing Space and HIT Scotland.
However, in order to continue to provide these types of support, the charity counts on the backing of businesses across the industry.
McIlwraith said: “At this crucial time, I’m appealing to you for your vital support more than ever.
“By working closely together we can ensure that The Ben continues to exist to support young and old within the hospitality community for now and years to come.
“Your generosity is an integral part of our ability to plan and create a legacy for our amazing industry.
“All your support is greatly appreciated and I would like to thank you in advance for all your help.”
