Glasgow ‘born and bred’ Marcello Ventisei has been appointed as the new general manager of the city’s iconic Grand Central hotel.
The hotel, which is now operated by IHG hotels as voco Grand Central Glasgow, has sat alongside Glasgow’s Central station since 27 June, 1883, and recently celebrated that rich 140 year history of hosting both famous guests and spectacular events.
Marcello takes charge there following a hospitality and tourism career spanning almost three decades, which began at the prestigious Grand Hotel in Brighton.
With his local connection and knowledge of the city, Marcello said he was delighted to be entrusted with the leadership of this historic landmark: “I couldn’t be prouder to take the reins of this magnificent hotel in my home city. I’ve grown up in Glasgow and have so many fond memories of the hotel over the years. It’s truly a special property that is very much loved by the people of Scotland.
“I have long admired the building and its fantastic reputation, which has been a symbol of exceptional hospitality for 140 years. With its rich history and prime location in Glasgow’s Central Station, there is so much to love.
“What’s more, the Grand Ballroom, which has hosted so many incredible events over the years, is one of the most architecturally stunning event spaces in the UK,” he said. “I am excited to be able to carry forward the hotel’s tradition of providing unforgettable experiences to our guests. It’s an honour and a privilege to work alongside such a talented team to take this Glaswegian gem to new heights.”
The hotel has recently undergone a multi-million rebrand and refurbishment, which aimed to preserve its rich heritage and original architectural design while infusing a contemporary touch.
With a focus on delivering exceptional guest experiences, Marcello plans to build upon the hotel’s sterling reputation and further elevate its status as Glasgow’s most loved hotel, positioning it as the leading Wedding and Event venue in the city, whilst ensuring that every guest leaves with cherished memories of their stay.
“My primary goal is to continue the legacy of voco Grand Central Hotel as a destination of choice for both locals and travellers alike, seeking a blend of modern luxury and timeless charm.
“Together, alongside the hotel’s dedicated team, I am committed to creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for our guests while upholding the highest standards of hospitality.”
