Arran’s Lagg Distillery unveils new core range bottlings
ISLE of Arran Distillers will launch the first of the new core range from its Lagg Distillery this month.
Arran opened Lagg – its second distillery on the island – in 2019 and released the inaugural bottlings from the facility last year.
This month the company will introduce what will become the flagship bottling for the Lagg Distillery moving forward – Lagg Kilmory Edition.
Fully matured in first-fill bourbon barrels and bottled at 46% ABV, Kilmory – named for the parish in which Lagg is located – is described as having a ‘vibrant and fresh’ flavour which combines Lagg’s signature peat flavour with the vanilla cream of the American oak.
Kilmory will be followed shortly after by the second of Lagg’s new core range: Corriecravie Edition.
Matured initially in bourbon barrels, Corriecravie – which is a small hamlet just to the north west of Lagg – is then finished for around six months in Oloroso sherry hogsheads sourced from Jerez, Spain. It is bottled at 55% ABV.
As is standard for Arran’s whiskies, both Kilmory and Corriecravie have been bottled without chill filtration or added colouring.
The Kilmory Edition will be priced around £50, with the Corriecravie Edition priced £65.
“The Kilmory expression embodies the ‘house style of Lagg’ which centres around the use of bourbon barrels with our peated spirit,” said Lagg Distillery manager, Graham Omand.
“The Corriecravie provides a real contrast, showing off a different side to the Lagg spirit, bringing to the fore notes of sweeter smoke, spices and rich fruits.
“These single malts are really rooted in the southside of Arran and their aromatic, peated character embodies the earthiness of the whiskies that would have been among the first to have been distilled on Arran hundreds of years ago.
“Today our Lagg single malts represent the spirit and respect for our land that the people here can’t wait to share with the wider world.”
The launch of the new whiskies comes as Isle of Arran Distillers looks to contribute to sustainable tourism on the island with the installation of EV charging points at both of its distilleries.
Arran teamed with Ayrshire-based charge point specialist Connekt EV to install four 22kw fast-charging units at both the Lagg and Lochranza sites.
Connekt has a policy of planting a tree for every charger it installs.
Euan Mitchell, managing director of Isle of Arran Distillers, said: “Visitors to the island can now travel between both distilleries and around the island in the safe knowledge that they can charge up their electric vehicles.
“As an EV driver myself, I am well aware of the benefits this will bring, as well as further enhancing our company’s green credentials.”
