IF YOUR pub, bar or restaurant is making an effort to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly, now is the time to shout about it, and win yourself a place in the official Green Pub Guide for 2023.

The guide, which appeared for the first time in 2022, is produced by Heineken SmartDispense, which is this year partnering with UKHospitality to invite hospitality venues across Britain to get involved.

With almost half (46%) of Gen Z and millennials claiming to be more inclined to visit a pub if it is eco-friendly or taking part in sustainable initiatives, it is clear that considering your carbon footprint makes good business sense, as does letting potential customers know what you are doing about it.

Head of Sustainability at Heineken UK, Chelsey Wroe, commented: “We are excited to be bringing back the Green Pub Guide for its second year. We received so many inspiring entries in 2022 and now with the support of UKHospitality for 2023, we’re keen to hear from even more pubs, bars and restaurants that are striving for a more sustainable future.

“As well as recognising the great work the hospitality industry is doing, we also want to inspire and support other venues to become more sustainable businesses. Whatever you’re doing to progress your sustainability journey and promote behaviour change with staff and guests, we’d love to hear from you – even if you’re just taking your first steps – do get in touch, and hopefully you can be part of creating a movement across the hospitality sector.”

To put yourself in the running for a Green Pub Guide listing, complete the entry form here by Friday 24th February 2023, outlining what makes your business special and your initiatives to reduce your environmental impact, alongside any supporting images.

The guide’s judging panel will be on the lookout for inspiring ideas, creative innovation, technological investments, and community initiatives that all show a desire to be more sustainable and kinder to the planet. In 2022’s guide, initiatives highlighted included removing single use plastic, creating seasonal zero-waste menus, decreasing water and CO2 wastage – with the help of tools such as SmartDispense – collecting rainwater to flush toilets, installing solar panel powered kitchens and installing EV charging points for guests.

UKHospitality Chief Executive Kate Nicholls, added: “We are delighted to be partnering with Heineken UK on the Green Pub Guide 2023 powered by SmartDispense and look forward to being a part of this exciting initiative and judging the incredible entries.

“There are countless examples of pubs taking action to become more sustainable, and this guide is a welcome innovation. Not only will it help people plan and enjoy a visit to an eco-friendly pub, but it also sets a great example for the industry to follow – we can’t wait to be involved for its second year.”
