LICENSEES unhappy with the new rateable value of their premises are being encouraged to lodge their appeals as soon as possible.
The draft revaluations for 2023 went live late last year. You can view them on the Scottish Assessors Association website at saa.gov.uk.
The new rateable values – which will be used to calculate a business’s non-domestic rates – come into force in April.
Business owners have until 31st July to submit an appeal, which will have to include any supporting evidence on why the draft rateable value should be changed.
Louise Daly, head of rating at Colliers Scotland, said delays to the legislation underpinning the appeals process means the process has become ‘extremely time limited’.
“Ratepayers should have received a draft Valuation Notice by now, notifying them of their 2023 rateable values. However, they have yet to be made aware of the restrictive and extremely time limited nature of the new proposal and appeal system.
“This means people will need to act now to ensure that they have sufficient time to lodge a complaint proposal through the new appeals system, should that be required.”
