From coffee to cocktails in Glasgow

A GLASGOW coffee shop is shaking up its offer with the introduction of a new cocktail concept.

Hinba Coffee Roasters on Dumbarton Road will transform into cocktail bar Eighty Six between 6pm and midnight Wednesday to Sunday, offering a range of drinks that are each inspired by flavours found in coffee. Examples include the Pistachio Sour, the Champagne Spritz and the Spiced Paloma.

Eighty Six is the brainchild of Hinba owners Fergus McCoss and Ness Achilles, who first launched Hinba Coffee Roasters in Oban in 2019 before opening a second unit, in Glasgow, earlier this year.

The concept for Eighty Six was developed in conjunction with neighbouring Glasgow restaurant Eighty Eight, with drinks devised by that venue’s mixologist, Iain Welsh.

McCoss said the idea for Eighty Six was inspired by time the couple had spent living in Palma.

“Most of the coffee shops in Palma turn into bars at night,” he said.

“The transition was always seamless – the relaxed daytime atmosphere really helped set the tone for a chilled night. I knew it was a concept I wanted to bring to Hinba.

“I think it will be really well received, especially in the west end. We’re the only venue in the area to be offering a coffee to cocktail experience like this. We want to be a place that people can enjoy at any time of the day.”
