Family firm welcomes the colder weather with warming drams
DOUGLAS Laing & Co, the family-owned whisky bottler, is ushering in the winter season with two limited edition versions of its Remarkable Regional Malts.
Big Peat Christmas is the annual festive edition of the company’s Big Peat Islay blended malt, which contains spirit from Islay distilleries.
Packing a punch at 52.8% ABV and bottled without chill filtration or colouring, the limited edition whisky features the Big Peat character riding a sleigh on the famous whisky isle.
Douglas Laing chairman Fred Laing said the Christmas release “has become something of an annual ritual for other Islay whisky-loving families all over the world”.
The Big Peat bottling is joined by a seasonal version of another Douglas Laing blended malt, Scallywag.
The Winter Limited Edition version of the Speyside blended malt which has been bottled at a cask strength of 53.1% ABV and – as with Big Peat – without colouring or chill-filtration.

“We’re delighted to unveil Scallywag’s second Winter Edition bottling, rounding off a year of positive growth for our Speyside malt brand,” said Scallywag brand manager, Rebecca Fennell.
“The Cask Strength Winter Edition combines a playful pack with truly serious whisky – matured exclusively in Spanish sherry casks, this big, feisty, fruity and festive dram is the ultimate warmer for those crisp, magical winter nights.”
