DEREK Burgoyne, co-founder of property company Cornerstone Business Agents, has announced that he is retiring after 37 years in the industry.
Burgoyne’s commercial property career began in 1984 before he launched property company Bruce & Co in 1988 with business partner Gordon Mair. They sold the business in 2006, only to join forces again in 2009 when they set up Cornerstone.
Mair retired from the business in 2014, after which it was run by Burgoyne and fellow directors Barry McNeil and David Higgins.
McNeil, who worked with Burgoyne and Mair at Bruce & Co before re-joining them at Cornerstone, described Burgoyne as “warm, friendly and naturally funny”.
“Equally, he is generous and with a natural sense of fairness and fair play,” said McNeil.
“He has not only influenced and nurtured my career but many others I am sure.
“Derek has sold hundreds of businesses over the years and his desire to offer the best service for the most competitive price has been at the core of what a client should expect and what a business run by him can offer.
“David and I will continue to have that core principle central to the future of Cornerstone.”
