Drams for good causes

THE licensed trade has the opportunity to support two Scottish charities through specially-released whisky bottlings.

Independent whisky bottler North Star Spirits has released a special bottling of single malt from the English Whisky Company in aid of Scottish licensed trade charity The Ben.

The 11 year-old whisky, matured in a Sauternes barrel and bottled at 51.8% ABV, is priced at £70 a bottle, with all profits going to The Ben.

Bottles can be purchased via North Star’s website at https://northstarspirits.com/product/the-ben-english-whisky

And Bladnoch Distillery is supporting local charity the Dumfries and Galloway Mental Health Association with the release of a rare bottle for auction.

The bottle of the distillery’s Sample Room Reserve whisky is being auctioned through Whisky Bull Auctions, with Bladnoch promising to match the winning bid and all proceeds going to the charity.

Each of Bladnoch’s employees received a bottle of Sample Room Reserve this year. The whisky was created by master distiller Nick Savage after he drew on archived samples of spirits from his sample room. No bottles were released to the public.

The bottle being auctioned – number three of 40 – was issued to Bladnoch owner David Prior.

Bidding for the bottle opened yesterday (12th August) and closes this Sunday (14th August).
