SWG3 opens its al fresco food and drink venue

A SCOTTISH arts and events venue is showcasing its brand new outdoor area today (July 6).

Located within Galvanizers Yard – the outdoor area at Glasgow venue SWG3 – the 250-cover Ronnie’s Bar & Bike Shop opened at midday today offering menus from street food outlets ShawarmaRama, GA GA Chicken, NOMAD pizza and Julie’s Kopitiam.

Safety measures including temperature checks at the entrance of the venue, the use of a mobile app to order drinks and make contactless payments and a digital control system to manage busy areas have been implemented by SWG3’s events team. Bookings – which have a time limit of two hours and 45 minutes – must be made in advance and tables will be spaced two metres apart and positioned within a marked circle to indicate each “social bubble”. Disposable utensils – plates, cups and cutlery – will be used and discarded after one use, and customers will be asked to clear their own tables. Staff have also been allocated visors, face masks, gloves and aprons and have undergone training prior to opening.

Andrew ‘Mutley’ Fleming-Brown, owner of SWG3, said: “We have worked incredibly hard over the last few weeks in preparation for this moment. Our absolute priority is to ensure our customers will be able to socialise safely next week when we open, which is why the new space is designed – first and foremost – around hygiene and safety.”
