SCOTTISH whisky company Douglas Laing & Co has announced two new initiatives to support the Scottish trade in response to the coronavirus epidemic.
The company has pledged that £1 from every litre of its blended malt, The Epicurean, sold globally will be donated to trade charity The Ben “on a long-term basis”.
The company is also recruiting bartenders to develop new serves for The Epicurean from their homes.
Douglas Laing & Co said the ‘Cocktail Quarantine’ activity “is intended to economically support members of the on-trade” during the pandemic.
“The spirits category is in the thick of an exceptionally challenging period and we want to do what we can to support and give back,” said chief executive, Chris Leggat.
“We’re acutely aware of the harsh reality that jobs will be affected, which is why our Epicurean Lowland Malt is looking to the future whilst also striving to alleviate some of the immediate financial pressure on some of the great people within our great spirits industry.”
And Ben president Stephen McGowan said the contribution for the charity is “a fabulous gesture”.
