AN Edinburgh hotel has declared it will save more than 80,000 plastic bottles in a bid to reduce plastic waste.

Ten Hill Place Hotel said it will no longer provide single-use bottles of water in its 129 bedrooms to encourage guests to refill glasses with tap water.

The four-star property, run by Surgeons Quarter, is the latest hotel to support the ‘Your Water Your Life’ campaign by Scottish Water which promotes drinking water from Scottish taps.

Scott Mitchell, MD of Surgeons Quarter, said he understands the impact travel has on the environment but described the hotel as a top choice for travellers who are keen to make a difference.

He said: “Ten Hill Place Hotel is a good choice for conscious consumers – but we’re still mindful of the effects that travel and the tourism industry has on our planet.

Scottish Water is the perfect partner for us to make this change. Our tap water in Scotland is world class, so there really is no need for us to be bringing in truckloads of plastic bottles.”
