Two Islay malts won gold

ISLAY malts Bunnahabhain and Bowmore were amongst the Scotch whisky winners in the International Spirits Challenge 2019.

The awards promote outstanding quality spirits from around the world and are judged by a panel of 50 experts.

Distell-owned Bunnahabhain scooped three Gold Awards and a new Double Gold Award, created to recognise spirits that achieved high scores in the competition’s blind tasting assessment, for its Bunnahabhain 25 year old expression.

Meanwhile, Bowmore’s 15 and 18 year old expressions were each recognised with a Gold Award.

Bowmore owner Beam Suntory’s Chiara Giovanacci said the wins demonstrate the expressions’ “qualities as two of the finest aged single malts in the world”.
